Ryan Pearl

As a life long avid alpine skier Ryan eventually followed the melting snow and began guiding rivers. He fell in love with all aspects of the river from rafts to dories and motor-rigs, the landscape, solitude and white water. Although a short lived guide, he absorbed enough information about boating to be a successful boatman on his own. During this time he began studying materials in the studio art department of the University of Utah. While enrolled he taught himself about composites and built his first full wood and composite boat before graduating in the spring of 2009 with a BFA in sculpture and intermedia.

Ryan has run dories throughout the entire West on rivers in Oregon, Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, Utah, Colorado, and Arizona, including every stretch of the Colorado and its tributaries.

He established Big Water Dories, LLC in the fall of 2008 in Salt Lake City. He currently lives and works near the base of the Uinta Mountains in Oakley, UT.
