Lighter. Stronger. Longer.

Big Water Dories was created to progress the dory building industry by creating a lighter, stronger, longer lasting boat. After spending time on rivers throughout the West, Ryan, believed he could build a dory on these foundations better than any others currently charging white water. Although, Big Water Dories was originally created to produce boats for big rapids the larger outdoor community Ryan belongs to boasts a great number of fishing guides and through the exchange of ideas has helped shape the different wants and needs for each custom dory whether fishing or running big white water is your forte.

Lighter.

The boats are made using an aero-space technology consisting of a vacuum infusion process. While plastic, rotto molded, or layers of fiberglass do work to create a light hull Big Water Dories prefers to utilizes a hexagonal polypropylene honeycomb core. The hexagon is a naturally occurring structure therefore borrowing the design from nature the core is created using thermal welded polypropylene in the honeycomb pattern. The honeycomb is positively buoyant, meaning it can float in water while holding more that its own weight, because of the pockets of air that fill the structure.

Stronger.

The honeycomb gap allows the hull to be superficial and due to the two skins, one on either side of the core there is a very minimal amount of failure. When a hull is made of wood or multiple layers of fiberglass receives a puncture the entire panel is comprised, but when a boat built by Big Water Dories is perforated the honeycomb gap maintains the integrity of the hull disallowing the failure to penetrate through to the other side. A breach through the core is virtually impossible.

Longer.

Since the composition is stronger and lighter it therefore creates a longer lasting boat. Unlike wood this design will never absorb water nor will it ever rot and mold. In addition, it allows the boatman longer days on the water as well as a longer boating life due to the reduced strain on the body from maneuvering a lighter boat.
